IT Companies plan to hire 2.5lacks across india

Shared from TOI!
On plans are to recruit nearly 2.5 lakh engineering graduates from across the country’s campuses this year. Last year, offers were made to nearly 2 lakh students. Campus recruitment, which usually happens in the last semester, has been advanced to the seventh semester this year. Consequently, tech companies have started visiting campuses in the past few days and have started issuing offer letters.
TCS has issued offer letters to 702 students of Thiagarajar College of Engineering in Madurai, 515 students of Velammal Group of institutions, 500 of Sairam Group of Colleges and 645 of RMK Group of Instuitutions, all in Tamil Nadu. Cognizant has offered jobs to 807 students of Anna University’s Guindy campus, Chennai, and 703 to students from PSG College in Coimbatore.
Cognizant also offered jobs to 500 students of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi. Accenture has signed offer letters for 417 candidates from Sona College in Salem. Wipro has offered job letters to nearly 700 students of Amity.
“When we saw the situation created by the US debt deal we thought it would impact placements. But it has not reflected in the placements in our college. It has been better than last year, with 642 students being recruited this year while TCS absorbed 477 of our students in 2010,” said Sivagnana Prabhu, head of training and corporate affairs, RMK Group of Institutions. “The students are usually asked to join around July or August. Our students have not faced delays in previous years, so we don’t expect them to happen this year either,” he said.
Andhra Pradesh leads the supply side of students with nearly 2 lakh a year, followed by Tamil Nadu with a 1.8 lakh students. Karnataka and Maharashtra supply about 80,000 students a year to the job pool. Most of the companies were not willing to confirm the offer letters or their recruitment plans citing confidentiality.
“This year the industry will ensure good recruitment numbers as we started the process in the seventh semester itself. This will result in good input for the industry. We are also witnessing interest from a lot of emerging companies to recruit from campus,” K Purushothaman, regional director, Tamil Nadu, Nasscom said. Smaller and niche IT companies like Thoughtworks, muSigma, Robert Bosch have also joined the campus rush this year.
Pay packages offered by companies will, however, remain at last year level of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.25 lakh a year for these engineers. “We are not revising that this year,” an industry official said.
“Cognizant has kick-started its hiring across campuses in India. Being the fastest growing consulting and IT services company, Cognizant continues to aggressively hire fresh graduate talent from premier institutions. It’s widely acknowledged that faster the company growth, faster the career progression of an individual. Cognizant demonstrated this in the previous promotion cycle where we promoted over 30% of our global workforce. This performance and promise has helped Cognizant get slot 1 in pretty much all the premier campuses we recruit from, helping us attract the choicest from among the best,” said Shankar Srinivasan, chief people officer, Cognizant.

Skype to acquire Groupme

Group me which is founded last year is group messaging service which allows users to message each other for free over mobile devices. Skype has a good reason to acquire this groupme. In the competitor space, there is great competition among google, apple and microsoft’s skype.

Google has its google voice, google+. Apple going to launch its iMessage for its iPhone very soon. Facebook recently launched its own group messaging service based on Beluga. By acquiring groupme, skype attains the capability of text, voice and video features which leads to a great enhancement. Also skype going to add the users of groupme to its million users

Note that the deal $8.5billion between the skype and microsoft is not over.

Social media game aims to end extremism

A social media game with Arab super heroes at its heart has been launched on Facebook.

Grab from Happy Oasis

The man behind the project, Suleiman Bakhit, hopes that Happy Oasis can create positive role models for children who might otherwise be enticed by extremist views.

The game launched this week and has already attracted 50,000 followers.

Newly appointed TED fellow Mr Bakhit spoke about his project at the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh.

Mr Bakhit, who comes from Jordan, was a student at the US University of Minnesota when the 9/11 attacks took place. Shortly afterwards he was attacked by four men because he was an Arab.

Instead of feeling bitter, Mr Bakhit decided to engage in an education campaign.

“I realised that you fight extremism by starting with the young. The message was simple – ‘We are not all terrorists’,” he told the BBC.

Armed with a not-so-magic carpet, he began telling Aladdin-style stories in local schools.

“One day a child asked me if there was an Arab superman and I realised that there wasn’t,” he said.

So began his comic-book project which aimed to create a range of positive Arab role-models, including a female James Bond and a Jordanian special agent who fights extremists.

In Jordan, Mr Bakhit has sold 300,000 copies of his comics and came to realise that there was a market for a web-based version.

“Print media is dying but there are 30 million Arabs on Facebook so I thought about making social games with the same message,” he said.

Mr Bakhit wanted to make sure that his characters related to the children he was aiming to reach.

“I took a peer-to-peer approach, engaging kids to get their ideas,” he said.

He was undecided about whether to include a character dressed in a burka until he showed the animated character to a focus group.

“They loved the idea so she was in,” he said.

The first game featured special agent Element O and while it was, in Mr Bakhit’s words “not very good”, it did show him the potential of such a project.

“Fans were discussing the games in the forums and arguing about politics. I went on as Element O and the arguments immediately stopped,” he said.

Mr Bakhit said he now hopes to take his comic book model to Pakistan, where extremism is a growing problem.

Tendulkar wants to enjoy England tour, not thinking of 100th ton

LONDON: A billion-plus fans in India would be expecting a record 100th ton when Sachin Tendulkar walks out to bat against England in the first Test at Lord’s but that is the last thing on the batting maestro’s mind as he simply wants to enjoy during the tour.

Tendulkar, who is on a vacation in London with his family, insists that enjoying the game is the key to success.

“I am not thinking of records,” Sachin was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.

“I am just thinking of enjoying this tour. The secret to any performance is not in chasing records. I think about, ‘What is the best way to enjoy the game, and how can I enhance that enjoyment factor?’

“If I enhance the enjoyment then, naturally, the standard of play becomes higher. To me, that is more important. If I am playing well, things can happen. I don’t need to go around chasing them. It is a process. You construct a solid foundation and build on it.”

Besides spending time with family, Tendulkar has been training here for the four-Test series while his team mates are set to join him soon from the West Indies.

Tendulkar said that being in England enables him to balance life by doing thing he will not be able to do in India due to the crazy fan-following.

“When I spend time in England, it is different. I get to do certain things that I wouldn’t be able to do in India: to go into the park with my children, to do whatever they want to do, whether it be a game of soccer or cricket. I enjoy the best of both. The idea is to balance life in India with life away from India, to get the best of both and to be a happy man.”

When asked about retiring from the game he has played for over 20 years, Tendulkar said: “I haven’t. I am enjoying every moment. It has been fun. In fact, I am looking at how to enjoy the game more and how to improve the standard of play. It is about getting better. Nobody knows what is going to happen tomorrow. At least today I know that I want to enjoy cricket, to enjoy the moment.”

New Sony camcorder on fire

Sony-Projector-Handycam

Sony-Projector-Handycam

sc[mashable]

Now that projectors have gotten so small, Sony‘s decided to shoehorn one into a camcorder. At first glance, the Sony HDR-PJ50 Handycam looks like an ordinary camcorder, but the outside of that viewscreen holds a special secret: a tiny projector Sony says can throw a 60-inch image on a wall or ceiling.

Why would you want to do that? If you use a camcorder frequently, you’re probably aware that people like to see the footage you’ve shot right then and there. Instead of huddling around a miniscule viewscreen, you can create your own mini-cinema for all to see.

But what about the audio? Sony says it’s got that covered. The device is adorned with “Clear Phase” stereo speakers with a digital amplifier pumping out “true-to-life sound.”

Sony’s not the first company to offer a camera/projector combo. Nikon was first in 2009 with its Coolpix S1000 PJ, followed by the 3M Shoot ‘n Share and ViewSonic’s DVP5 projector camcorder. All those camcorders looked more like still cameras, though. This Sony shooter sticks with the traditional camcorder form factor.

Can its quality measure up, and most importantly, is its projector watchable? Sony had better be bringing some quality to the game, especially since Sony Asia Pacific is selling this product for a steep $1,350, first in India. That pricing could be dicey, because although micro-projectors have come a long way since they first appeared on the scene a few years ago, even the most powerful models are still best watched in the dark.

Even so, a projecting camcorder could be fun for you and fellow partiers. And you can understand Sony’s strategy of adding value to the mature camcorder market, as it looks for ways to keep video hobbyists from quitting camcorders altogether — abandoning them in favor of smartphones.

A smartphone camcorder has an advantage: It’s usually in your possession, proving that old photographer’s adage that I’ll paraphrase here: “The best camcorder in the world is the one you have with you.”
